The Inside Out Program Model
The heart of every program designed and delivered by Inside Out is our signature mix of stories of direct lived experience paired with the most up-to-date available research and data to create a blend of information and emotional impact that allows a more direct connection with the material and effective learning and growth and service delivery rooted in both empathy and facts.
A little Bit of History Repeating
Experiences of race-based discrimination can and do have harmful effects on people and their wider communities. Nationally, people of color are more likely to live in poverty and/or face arrest and jail than their White peers. Using a mixture of historical data and lived experience testimonials, this training explores the history of why and how this situation is the result of decades of systemic and structural reinforcement from how the census data was historically collected, to how crime is reported in the media.
InJustice Rolling Like Boulders
The Supreme Court has a long history of systemic injustice that disproportionately affects minority communities, and yet is rarely considered in the day-to-day practice of working with people seeking mental health services. This training examines the traumatic impact of Supreme Court Decisions/Social Public Policy on the mental health of marginalized communities to expand the view of the justice system’s intersection with mental health beyond law enforcement and jails.
Finding your compass
There’s a reason for why and how we do the work we do. This training helps groups find the common strengths a team shares, as well as the unique drives and talents each member brings to the table, building a collaborative atmosphere of trust, respect, and a renewed drive toward your common goal.
Walk the talk: A Dialogue on therapeutic support skills
The reality in the field is that a number of professions beyond the psychologist or councilor provide therapeutic support to the communities we serve. Here we examine the principles that drive this work, provide an introduction to suggested skills for development, as well as an introduction to low barrier training models available in most communities.
Coffee & Conversations
A customizable multi-part education program designed to provide an informal and welcoming environment for learning and discussion on several mental health topics. The structure focuses on normalizing and destigmatizing conversations surrounding mental health and wellness while providing the tools to become better informed when seeking services.
“I’m F.I.N.E.”
Freaked out, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional. One of the most common-yet-undocumented symptoms of living with mental health conditions and differing kinds of trauma, is the statement “I’m fine.” This workshop examines why that is, different ways to frame it, and why it’s ok to not be “fine.” Finally, we discuss ways to broach these topics with our providers and loved ones.
A Peek Inside
Our signature program, mixing lived experience stories with the art and humor to connect with the audience and break down barriers in discussing mental health and substance use while providing an empathetic view of those affected, both the individual and their surrounding family members, caregivers, and friends.
